Professional Staff of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia Training on the EU institutions

Apart from the Government, the Assembly also plays a key role in the EU accession process, especially in the area of harmonization of the legislation and transposition of the EU legislation. In addition, the Assembly should also ensure that the Government bodies’ harmonization activities of the legislation, are monitored. In the framework of its competencies, and especially by means of sessions, public hearings and other debates, the Assembly also plays an informative role, i.e., a role to bring the EU integration process closer to the citizens.

This is the reason why the project "Nordic Support for Progress of North Macedonia" organized a training for fifteen professional staff members of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia. The training was conducted by Irena Bojadjievska Ph.D., Professor at the Faculty of Law at the American College and an experienced EU expert, and Petar Kamchev, who holds a MSc degree in Economics from the London School of Economics (LSE) with expertise in Finance and Financial Implications and the EU.
The purpose of the training was to present the EU institutions’ competencies and functions as well as the processes within the institutions regarding the EU integration process of North Macedonia. In addition, the professional staff members of the Assembly had the opportunity to get acquainted with the role and connection of these processes with the national parliaments. During the lectures, greatest emphasis was given to the legislative process, the role of the European Parliament, the European Commission, the Council of the European Union (European Council and the Council of Ministers), the European Court of Justice, as well as the role of the Assembly in the EU integration process.
This training is part of a series of trainings for the members of the Committee on European Affairs and the professional staff members of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia to strengthen their capacities regarding the EU integration process which will take place until September.
